One of the 14 defining characteristics of Fascism is Fraudulent Elections. Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Worldwide, Authoritarians are using disinformation campaigns to allow them to challenge the elections they lose and sow chaos. In America, the Republican Party is engaging in a campaign to undermine the ability of Americans to vote and their faith in free and fair elections. They are also working to get loyal members of their party into positions to control the results of elections.
