• North Georgia man sentenced on Jan. 6 charge A federal judge Friday sentenced Glen Mitchell Simon of Jackson County to eight months in federal prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. Simon is the 10th of 22 Jan. 6 defendants with Georgia ties to be sentenced in the massive federal investigation. Two others await sentencing.
